For years I’ve explored this area east of Saskatoon by car and I always circle this ridge line wondering what the view was like from the top. You can see the ridge in the background of this photo. Anyway, on this occasion I stopped and talked to the farmer that owns the land and asked if I could jump the fence and hike to the top. It was a good hike up the hill but what a view! I spent some time just sitting and taking it all in without even taking a photo. After a while I continued to explore and came across this scene…

On our canoe trip this fall we took a day trip to check out Nistowiak Falls. I set up in the usual (horisontal) way to take a panorama but with the close quarters it was tough to get enough foreground and sky in the frame. The solution…use vertical images. I rotated the camera 90º to for portrait images. This allowed me to get more foreground and sky in the fame. The result is a panorama made from 7 vertical shots blended together in Photoshop. What do you think? Click on the image to see a larger version.
