41/52 CPR

By the looks of it this old CPR lock has seen many years of hard use.  I wonder how many?

40/52 The Watch

Most of the time when I find a scene to photograph I move around a lot, taking many photos, looking for the best angle to take the photo from.  It can sometimes be a long process and it doesn’t always work out in the final image.  Not so with this scene.  I knew as soon as I drove up, what I wanted the final image to look like.  I took my time capturing the images and spent quite a while processing this image in the hopes of coming out with what I had envisioned at the time of capture.  In the end, I’m happy to say,...

39/52 Crushed

I always find I’m so lazy and uninspired this time of year so I forced myself to get out for a walk with my camera last weekend to see what I could find.  At first glance, early spring appears dirty and ugly…well… I guess it is, but you can find some interesting scenes if you look.  This was just down the back ally behind our house.   Buy this...

38/52 Shiny New Development

This was taken last week at a storage yard for some of the infrastructure needed for one of Saskatoon’s next developments.  This is happening just out my back door and I have some mixed feelings about it.  Through my photos, I hope to document the progress and my feelings about this growth over the course of it’s construction. Stay tuned… Buy this...

37/52 Blanket on the Bed

Well another crazy week in the Kunz household so I had to pull this one from a while back.  The kids activities are almost done now so things should slow down a little.  This was another one of those times where it took me a while to figure out what caught my eye.  The trick I find, is to approach the scene from a distance and slowly eliminate elements of the the scene that are distracting to the eye, until all that’s left is what attracted my eye in the first place.  Seems simple but sometimes it can be frustrating. Buy this...

36/52 Eagle Creek Fence Line

I signed up to help out with my daughter’s field trip this past week and we had a blast!  It was all about winter survival.  The students learned about some of the hardships in a survival situation and how to handle them.  They learned that one of the first tasks in a survival situation is to find shelter so they had to build lean-to shelters out branches and trees.  I think it was hard for some of them but each group was able to build a fairly good shelter.  While they were off gathering materials I was able to do a little...

35/52 Bubbles

Here is something else I’ve read about and have wanted to try.  Macro photos of fruit in soda water.  I set up and spent Sunday afternoon playing around trying to capture what I had in mind.  I think it turned out fairly well but next time I need to figure out a way to keep the whole fruit in focus.  Maybe just a smaller aperture or make sure the fruit slice is perfectly parallel to the camera.  Perfect excuse to try...

34/52 ONE WAY

Last weekend my son and I went ice fishing with some of my family.  It was quite cold but we had a great time hanging out in the shack fishing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.  I haven’t been out shooting or felt all that inspired lately so I thought the weekend outside in nature would get my creative juices flowing.  There was some beautiful scenery with more snow than I’ve seen in a long time but I just couldn’t find the shot I wanted.  In fact, until I sorted through my photos and found this one, I didn’t think I...

32/52 Level 1

The other night I was wondering around downtown looking for my next photo…  That sounds so idyllic – really, I was shuffling around in the bitter cold, wearing all the clothes I had with me, trying to stay warm and take photos at the same time, because I just had to get my next photo!  Anyway, I walked into a parkade that I had been eyeing up for a while and I suspected would have some interesting features to photograph.  I wasn’t disappointed!  There were so many neat lines and shapes that I could have spent hours...
